The Bitcoin Job Market Is Growing Faster than BTC Price

The crypto market grew by 200% in a year. The Bitcoin job market grew faster.

The Bitcoin job market is seeing explosive growth.

In August 2018, there were 1,775 job listings related to blockchain technology. By comparison, a year earlier there were only 446 listings. The Bitcoin job market saw a growth of 300% between 2017 and 2018.

Where to Work?

Though Bitcoin (BTC) price is significantly lower from its historic December 2017 highs, the enthusiasm surrounding it hasn’t withered. In fact, Bitcoin job market growth has significantly outpaced the cryptocurrency market’s 200% growth since August 2017.

The most sought-after employees are engineers, and technology and science professionals. Software engineers account for 19% of all job listings in Glassdoor’s report. Overall, tech, engineering, and science jobs represent more than half of the job market.

Similarly, tech giants like ConsenSys, IBM, and Coinbase are among the top hirers.

Bitcoin Job Market: Top Cities

And certain cities have more Bitcoin-related jobs than others.

Unsurprisingly, the country’s financial and tech capitals lead the list. The first city is New York, which had 421 openings as of August 2018. San-Francisco follows with 381 openings. The top five also includes San Jose, California, Chicago, Illinois, and Seattle, Washington.

Other cities around the world have similar Bitcoin-related job opportunities. In London, Glassdoor found 189 job listings, which represent 24% of the listings found internationally. Two other tech hubs, Singapore, and Toronto also made the list with 85 and 82 jobs, respectively.

How Much Does It Pay?

There are plenty of stories about how people earn millions in cryptocurrency booms. However, there also are stories about how people lose everything in massive scams.

But the average position in the Bitcoin job market pays well. More specifically, the median salary is around $84,000 per year. This is substantially higher than the US median salary of $52,000.

And high salaries aren’t rare in the tech industry. For example, the median pay for software engineers is around $102,000.

The number of Bitcoin, blockchain, and cryptocurrency jobs represents a small percentage of the US job market. However, the cryptocurrency job market represents an increasingly significant part of the tech industry.
